There are those people you know who have their whole lives mapped out.... what university they will go to, what course they will study, the job they will get, who they will marry, how many kids they will have etc etc....

That used to be me.

Completely.

I was the master goal setter. I had long term goals, short term goals, personal goals, business goals... you name it! I also had to-do list apps, diaries, journals, goal sheets, planners.... I really went the whole hog.

For me it was a control thing.

I liked to feel like I was in control of my life and everything that went along with it. I thought that if I made plans and prayed over them then God would push everything into place. Then I realised that God often has very different plans than I do.

The "being in control" thing got beaten (metaphorically) out of me when I started having kids.

There is nothing like a pregnancy to show you that you are in control of nothing.

I now know that God has His plans and I have mine. Sometimes they line up and other times they don't. My new goal is to be so in tune with Him that my goals align completely with Him.

All. the. time.

This isn't easy but when you dedicate your life to living by the truth of His word, your life begins to align all the more. When you have a heart pointed to God, He will guide your path and keep you aligned with His purposes.

I think God allowed for all my plans to get disrupted to teach me a very valuable lesson. Unfortunately, in this instance, (and many others) I wasn't the fastest learner. So in this lifelong lesson, I find myself needing direction almost constantly. Every time I find myself on a path and thinking I have a nice straight ride, its like the lights go out and I'm unsure where to step next. That's when I refocus on God and allow Him to light the way that I should be going.

Do you feel like this too, or is it just me?

When you are looking for direction, or guidance or anything really, turning to the bible is the best first step you can take.

Here are 10 verses for those times you need direction.

Your light is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path

Psalms 119:105

Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.
